Hi XC skiers,
First, keep up your snow dances. Lots of Snow is forecasted for this upcoming Turkey Week on Snoqualmie Pass. The more snow, the earlier we get to XC ski in December!
I have been getting lots of requests for FAMILY beginning Christmas and birthday XC ski lessons with me again. Please make sure your kids or spouse really wants to learn how to Classic or Skate ski before you sign them up! I promise to help them love winter and maybe even XC skiing with you!
If you have beginning skiers in your family, try starting them with Classic XC ski lessons (with me. I cannot guarantee success teaching your partner!) I recommend renting ski gear for their XC ski lessons. You can gift ski equipment next Christmas if they ask Santa!
For those in Seattle, probably rent with REI. For East Sider XC riders, I am impressed with Pro Ski Service in North Bend at 112 on W. 2nd. St. MIKE YOST is a Great XC boot fitter and they get the ski and pole sizing right. Ask for an XC Skier to help you at either location. Snow boarders are great...if you want to board! Their general store info #425-888-6397.
Also Pro Ski is a great local place to get your new gear. If you are traveling North, Winthrop Mountain Sports in Winthrop is awesome if you have a vacation in the Methow Valley! You can also buy from them via a phone or Zoom call. Ask for Marine or Erik Bjornsen, the owners and retired World Cup Ski racers. The phone # 509-846-3265. Or marine@winthropmountainsports.com
Please tell Mike, Marine or Erik that Schreck sent you! They are really nice skiers to work with and they put up with me. I buy all my gear from Marine and Erik during my December trip to the XC mecca, the Methow Valley.
So getting back to your partner/kids XC ski lessons, My teaching schedule is pretty booked up especially for beginning skiers in January. So JUST for you my favorite XC skiers, I opened up some beginning XC skier lesson days for your family beginning skiers; all at Hyak SnoPark. It's less intimidating, flatter, closer to the West Side and has indoor plumbing.
Here's some options for beginning XC skiers; all at Hyak SnoPark. All are 75 minutes:
December
Mon. 29th at 8:30 & 11:30
Wed. 31st at 8:30 & 10am
January
Fri. 2nd at 8:30 & 10am
Sat. 3rd at 8:30 & 11:30
Mon. 5th at 11:30
Fri. 9th at 8:30 & 10am
Mon. 12th at 11:30
Mon. 19th at 11:30
For returning intermediate to advanced skiers, January is pretty booked (except for the above beginning XC skiers Hyak slots). But there are still some openings in February and March if you want a tune-up. I teach Skate intermediate to advanced XC skiers on Wednesdays (ideal) and Sundays at Crystal Springs SnoPark. I teach Classic intermediate to advanced XC skiers on Thursdays (ideal) and Saturdays also at Crystal Springs. Let me know if you're interested in a tune-up lesson before the schedule fills up.
February Dates still open for Skate lessons:
Wednesdays: the 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th
Sundays: the 15th, 22nd, and March 1st
February Dates still open for Classic lessons:
Thursdays: the 12th, 19th, and 26th
Saturdays: the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th
You'll enjoy XC skiing if you wax your skis. Daily Liquid wax your boards or get them hot waxed and go 75 to 100 km pretty bliss free! Yes, the Schreck Waxing Table is an option if you don't have the equipment or technique. You can give them to me after your first lesson and I will return them for your next lesson. I use the ideal pro wax for our 20°-35° temperatures 🌡 😀. I can also Hot Box them for you. More information on my website: Schreckski.com
See you XC skiing soon!
