Short answer: Heck yes! Even though I have snow, the daffodils are poking through at my cabin up by Cle Elum Lake!
Today, Saturday, was grooming by Nick at Trollhaugen and the Washington State Parks Grooming Big machine on the P2C Trail from Hyak to Crystal Springs SnoParks. Quite nice. The State groomed all week. Cabin Creek Sno Park did not.
Some caveats:
- It's Spring officially today, not January, so be prepared for warmer snow conditions. Swix 10 hot wax or just wax your skis as more ski suction from water on surface of the snow when above freezing temperatures.
- The grooming is expensive and they are working with hydrologic events. High creek levels are encroaching in a few areas with our trails, especially on the sled dog trails which were NOT groomed today. Bring a snorkeling mask if you insist on going there. But it's not bad on the P2C Trail and getting to it from either SnoPark. Hopefully we'll get grooming through March 30th.
- Yes it rained a little this week but today is sunny and warm. Be prepared for unpredictable weather. Gore-Tex is your friend. Don't over dress yourself. Think and dress like a rainy day in Seattle.
- Travel to higher trails IN Spring. Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center has Spring Skiing until there's not enough snow. Usually open until Memorial Day. Silver Star/Sovereign Lakes have excellent conditions in B.C. or just bring your widest classic XC skis and travel on the P2C Trail in April.
- A bunch of skiers took advantage of my no questions 100% refund policy before last week's big snowmaghedden. So I now have availability on my calendar on my website Schreckski.com for this last full week of March until the 29th.
